For those of you who were at the field on Saturday and Sunday you may have witnessed history in the making. Two of my babies took the great leap in to the skies above. Firstly Rita Gielnik did her first solo trike flight after months of aborted attempts at take off's using her backpack we eventual convinced her to try a trike. We have lent her the use of one of our nDiza trikes and it all worked out for the best. Rita has grown wings and as she said it in the air, "I DID IT!". Rian Nel, one of my babies too, (all 101kg of baby) took to the sky on Sunday morning. He was rattling like a cane forest before the first flight, but we all did this and some still do this depending on the conditions and events. Well Rian took off and settled down with in minutes of being airborne. He seems to have a very good feel for the wing. Rian is flying the new Red Head motor that we brought in from China. I was overly surprised with this engine. I took it for it's first test flight before Rian's flight and well power is not a problem. In fact it has more thrust than some of the Simonini motors i have recently flown and is considerably lighter. This is only a 180cc motor and without the electric starting system as it's only vice still runs like a dream and pull starts with a very light pull on the starter rope. As a tandem motor this will be a winner. In fact it feels like i am carrying a 100cc motor on my back and in comparison to the Black Devil it is a breeze to wear and fly. ( i digress) Rian flew well and then came in for his landing and as the ground came closer his feet started lifting too. the arrival was well a little dusty. Even so it was a great flight. On Sunday afternoon Rian and Rita were airborne with 13 of there fellow pilots and had a blast. Good landings and the day ended with an out landing recovery with Chris loosing the function of his carb when the cable to it came loose. Thanks to Laurie for driving recovery and we found him as the darkness engulfed us. Thanks to Hendrik Theron for the use of his GPS and also for having spotted Chris. Chris had left his Phone in the car so calling him was not working. At least we got him in the end.
