National Colours for SA PPG Team The team (Heiko, Tony, Dawie, Martin and Callie) were present for the awards evening presented by The Aeroclub of South Africa. Keith was unfortunately not able to make the evening. We missed him and his wife. Heiko was presented with a Merit award for his selfless contributions to aviation in South Africa. This was because of the way he handled the SAR efforts for Neil and the organising of the PPG Team all at the same time as running his company. Nice one Heiko. The Morning before the awards Martin and Callie joined us Gautengers for a flight from Grasslands. Steve and I dragged the 2 Xcitors out and flew our Cape friends to Monte Casino and then returned back via Kyalami Raceway. There was a very strong upper air component and the turbulence from the mountains and shear layers forced us to fly high. We had a 28km/h into wind leg that took us 45 min to fly to Monte Casino and a down wind leg of 130km/h gave us a 5 min return trip. It was silky smooth in the upper section of the Special rules area. The two brother were blown away by the Xcitors and said they can see why we like to fly them. The speed and stability was what really made an impression. We had a great time with our friends and will be visiting the Cape in January to fly with them in the area.
