The SA Homeloans PPG Team is going for Gold in Beijing!

The Sports Federation of China is hosting the 5th WORLD MICROLIGHT PARAMOTOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, which will be held in Beijing, the capital of China and the place of 2008 Olympic Games. The event will run from September 1st to the 9th, 2007. The flying site is very close to the Great Wall, one of the premier sights of the World. It is about 45 Km north-east of central Beijing, and 35 Km from Beijing Capital International Airport.

National colours have been awarded to The SA Homeloans PPG Team members:

AD Gibson (Captain) (SA Champion 2004/ 2006, 5th USA nationals 2006, PPG/PPC Flight instructor)

H Weidhase ( Manager) (MD. Large asset management house)

DD Roodt (Top SA Economist and TV Presenter)

JP Calitz (Top SA Challenge Pilot, Second in SA 2006 champs)

M Calitz (Second in SA Challenge)

K Pickersgill (SA Champ 2002, Second in 2004 SA champs/ PPG Flight Instructor)

All the above PPG pilots will be taking part in the Category PF1 (Powered Foot Launch Single Seat). This single seat Aircraft is a Paraglider that is powered by a small engine carried on the pilots back. The pilot will be required to launch himself into the air and fly designated tasks set by a task committee. Tasks that will be flown will fall into three categories, Navigation, Economy and Close Course racing.

The Navigation tasks are based on rally type, to the second time declarations with hidden markers and photo recognition elements included in the flying. No GPS assistance is allowed.

The Economy tasks are determined by the longest time or distances flown with a limited amount of fuel and may include Navigation tasks.

The Close Course tasks are Slalom, Precision and Spot Landing formats, and there are many varieties that can be flown. Items like the Clover Leaf, Japanese Slalom, Random Slalom & Four Sticks to mention only a few are all very spectator friendly as all the action is taken place right in front of the spectators.

The South African pilots are being assisted by SA Homeloans, The Efficient Group, Dawn Wing Couriers, PIC, SAHPA, Summit TV, F&C Insurance Brokers and Radio OFM to get to the World championships this year. Two television programs will be aired once the team returns home on Kyknet and Supersport for you to see all the action.

Should you have any queries, please contact Tony Gibson on 0829482001 or Heiko Weidhase on 0824507968.
